A Brief History
The Montessori curriculum was created by Maria Montessori, a pioneering educator dedicated to transforming early childhood education. Her innovative approach promotes independence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. Children are encouraged to explore at their own pace in a carefully prepared environment, guided by skilled practitioners. Maria Montessori believed children are naturally capable of self-directed learning and develop best through hands-on experiences. She emphasised respect for each child’s individuality and recognised key “sensitive periods” when specific skills are most easily acquired.
"The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn"

Our Logo and Philosophy
Our logo reflects the heart of our teaching philosophy:
The Trunk
It represents Curiosity, Concentration, and Confidence, as we believe there are three key characteristics that provide the foundation for each child to learn and develop to their full potential. These characteristics are innate in every child but must be encouraged and enhanced by the adults around them.
The Branches
They symbolise our eight core areas of development: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Art & Design, Music, Physical, and Understanding the World.
Our curriculum is divided into eight key areas of development which incorporate both the Montessori and EYFS syllabuses. For each area of development, activities have been carefully designed to enhance the child’s abilities and interests. As Montessori learning is very much achieved through the child's "play", we aim to ensure that every part of the child’s day is used to further advance their development.

The Shield
it highlights the four key influences on a child’s journey: Classroom, Directors, Parents, and Supporting Professionals The most important influences in the child's learning and development are the environment in which they live.
At the Learners Montessori Nurseries, the classroom and play areas are carefully designed and set up to encourage children to explore and learn through the activities available to them. In keeping with the core Montessori philosophy, our staff are not there to teach, but to guide children to achieve their own potential and ensure each child’s individuality is respected.

By working closely with parents, we ensure that these teaching principles are continued in the home and the child is comfortable in the security of a consistent approach throughout their learning journey. Finally, we work closely with other professional bodies relating to early years teaching and development to ensure our children are given the best opportunities across the board.
Our Learning Environment
At Learners Montessori Nurseries, we blend the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework with core Montessori principles to give every child the strongest start in life. Rooted in the belief that children are naturally eager to learn, the Montessori approach encourages them to follow their own interests, achieving more when given the freedom to explore. Our nurseries provide a safe, welcoming space where each child feels supported to discover and grow at their own pace.
Exceptional Classrooms
For children under two, we offer themed areas such as a home corner, book nook, music space, messy play zone, and building blocks, inviting them to look, touch, and experiment.
Non-mobile babies enjoy a dedicated area where they can play undisturbed.
Older children engage with specially designed Montessori materials, each created by Maria Montessori to support specific stages of development and learning through play.

The teacher’s role
Respect for every child is the cornerstone of Montessori philosophy. Teachers observe and guide rather than instruct, allowing children to develop at their own pace while taking pride in their achievements.
All practitioners, whether Montessori-qualified or trained in-house, follow these principles to create a calm, enriching environment. Meet our teachers at Budding, Great, and Little Learners and learn more about their qualifications.
